Atherton, Mark. Teach Yourself Old English. London: Teach Yourself, 2006.

While this book seems like a good book for beginners at first, it is actually slightly more advanced (while at the same time being less thorough.) Atherton takes readers through each chapter with a text to read, explanations of the grammar, vocabulary, and practice exercises. He includes some cool trivia and facts, and writes with an easy to read, conversational tone. Unfortunately, the book doesn’t focus on teaching the language, but more on deciphering specific texts. A great purchase if you plan on studying only the texts found in the book, but perhaps not if you will be studying Old English for any length of time.
